So 2 of our extract beers, our Hoegaarden clone and the sweet orange hefe are developing some interesting flavors

The Hoegaarden clone had a fruity skittles taste now. When we first brewed it, it was spot on.

The sweet orange hefe is developing a smiliar taste after only 2 months or so after bottle date. It isn't as strong in the sweet orange hefe, but is starting to come out (though a little sour, maybe sour skittles?).

I am wondering why this is happening. We think it might have to do with the orange peel (dried sweet used in white ale, fresh sweet orange zest used in the orange hefe) added into the brews.

Any thoughts? I will bring some of the sweet orange hefe to the meeting on Tuesday.

Bring 'em both!  I want to taste both for flavor recognition; so I can better evaluate in the future (My goal is to always keep learning!).  Skittles flavors?  Both Sweet and Sour?  Great, I wanna taste!

My first stab guess: the flavors are from the peels.  And for Hefe beers- drink ASAP.  Wheat beers don't keep well, and are traditionally brewed for quick consumption in the summer months.  Appreciate the Skittles flavors, and drink up those beers (or give 'em all to me).

Ah good to know about hefes.

I think I might still have a bottle or two left of the white ale. Some of the while ales were flavored with blueberry flavoring so I will bring those too if there are any left.

Looks like I will have a lot of interesting beer for the meeting!

On the note of skittle brew, i've considering doing one using  a skittle simple syrup (what they use in vodka infusions, which is red, orange, and yellow skittles melted down, then reduced into a simple syrup).

Go for it!  I wanna do a 4th of July brew; using "Red Hots" in a blonde ale recipe, in the future.  I love to see someone branch out into experiments!

Sounds like a good summer throwdown.  Cool

Brew stuff that is red, white, or blue.
