Amateur Brewer on a pieced together all grain system: Please don't try this at home!

Seriously, we need to be aware of the dangers of brewing. We have large amounts of very hot liquids usually placed precariously on top of propane burners and we transfer these scalding liquids through pumps with several jerry rigged connections. Consider also the chemicals you use. Any number of things can go wrong on brew day. Propane connections can fail. The fumes from the spent propane can overcome you. The pot can tip over, or a child can tip it over (imagine explaining that one!) Connections can fail and spray scalding hot liquid. All potentially life changing accidents.
This is the perfect opportunity for me and all of you to just look at our brewing set up and consider how we can make this hobby more safe for our sake and our family's sake.
Frankly I knew for a while that this may happen. It actually did happen once before, but I didn't get hit with the hot water! Can you imagine my chagrin now? I had to apologize to my family - remember this is just a hobby, it's not something I have to do. It should be as safe and fun an activity as I can make it. Getting a bad burn is not being safe and really not much fun.
